Finding Your Tribe: The People at Premier

When I first ran into Nancy Beattie, I was wandering around CU’s last career fair of the semester, searching for a potential job. Unfortunately for me, most of the companies in attendance were looking for engineering or computer science majors and wanted nothing to do with a lowly psychology major like myself. As I mentally kicked myself for choosing to study a “soft” science, I noticed a recruiter who was trying to grab the attention of passing students.

Unlike most of the recruiters, she actively tried to initiate a conversation with everybody who walked by, instead of hiding behind her table and waiting for students to approach. Her enthusiasm appealed to me, and, even though I knew nothing of Premier Members and what sort of applicants they might be looking for, I decided I wanted to talk to this engaging woman. At the very least, I could tell it would be interesting to talk with her, and I hoped that talking with such a cheerful person would encourage me to keep going through the fair.

After I introduced myself and Nancy told me a little bit about Premier, I found myself chatting back and forth with her, thoroughly enjoying our conversation. When I finally pulled myself away, I knew that I would enjoy any position in a company that employed such friendly staff members. Less than an hour later I went online and applied for Premier’s marketing internship, and a few weeks later I found myself walking into Premier Members’ Boulder branch for an interview.

When I walked in I had no idea where to go, but one of the staff in the lobby immediately asked me if I needed anything. It was such a relief to have someone help me without even asking! My interviewer, too, was extremely kind and engaging. I left the interview feeling more nervous than when I entered, though, because I wanted so badly to have the opportunity to work with such nice people.

It’s been three weeks since I was hired, and I still can’t get over how much I enjoy working in the Premier environment. I love working with a group of people who, like myself, approach every day with a caring and engaged attitude. I am extremely glad that I ran across Nancy at the career fair. She led me to a company and a staff that already make me feel like I belong.
