As an active member of the community, Premier Members looks for ways to help charitable organizations achieve their missions. On March 4, Premier kicked off their annual fundraising drive for March of Dimes, an organization which Premier is very passionate about.
March of Dimes has its roots in the Georgia Warm Springs Foundation, which Franklin D. Roosevelt started in 1927 as a way to help those stricken by polio to find ways to heal. By 1938, the number of polio sufferers in the United States had increased at an alarming rate, and President Roosevelt started the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. Eddie Cantor first came up with the March of Dimes name, as he urged listeners to send dimes directly to the White House to help battle the disease.
The organization officially became the March of Dimes in 1979, and with polio successfully beaten, March of Dimes turned its focus to helping find ways to end premature birth.
Each year, the Premier staff tries to outdo themselves. By selling candy bars in the lobbies of each branch and by soliciting sponsorships prior to the walk, the Premier staff was able to raise $13,332 to donate to the charity last year. This year, the team has even higher goals: $15,000.
Each member of the team has their own page, allowing friends and family to sponsor specific members for the April 25 March for Babies. Each individual has the option to personalize their page, so be sure to stop by the team’s site and click on some of the individual team members’ pages to read personal stories.
If you have stories you would like to share, please feel free to post them in the comments section. Remember, working together, Premier and our members can help March of Dimes on their mission to ensure that, one day, all babies will be born healthy.
